I'm not sure we have to bring religion into it. I mean, what you think is probably based on religion but sin is pretty ubiquitious. We all understand wrongdoing. I don't want to have people diss on the religions of others, I don't want any hurt feelings. I'm just wondering (and apparently so is Bam Bam) about the idea of sins being unequal. I like Cappy's idea of being judged over a lifetime.

But if you don't have religion, then how do you believe in sin being judged and going to heaven? They sort of go hand in hand.

You can believe in God and heaven and not be a follower of a specific religion.

and we'll all be so busy shaking hands with our friends we won't notice the heat.
to answer the question:
heaven and hell= yes they exist
all sin equal= in God's eyes, yes. (we put the degrees on it so we can feel better about ourselves "at least I'm not like so-and-so") I really think sin is sin, and God's grace covers it all. It's a free gift, the price has been paid. So take the gift, realize that you're not perfect and will continue to sin, God will look at the Big Picture!

That's what I'm saying but if you don't believe in God you can't believe in heaven. That's why religion can't be left out of the equation.

You really think stealing a candy bar from the grocery store is considered the same as killing someone? What happens if you die, with the candy bar keep you out of heaven if you haven't repented? Is so, I am soooo busted.

Believing in God and believing in religion are not the same thing.

What kind of candy bar--like a $100,000 bar would be grand theft I would think. But Penny candy you could get away with.

Is this all written down somewhere? I don't want to spend enternity in the fiery pit of hell because I went $.02 over the limit. That would be a major bummer.

I think that sin is sin. stealing and killing are 2 of the 10 biggies we were told not to do. However, it's not the actual sin that keeps you out of heaven, it is continuing to live in a sinful way. Accept the gift of salvation and the sins are covered, you are then living in a state of grace. That means that your desire is to do the right thing, but being a human that is not always possible. Now here's the unpopular part of this view: a killer can make it into heaven.
