So I was running at the gym one day last week when I saw a fellow runner who is since retired from where I work. He was an accomplished runner in his day and more of a student of running than I have ever been. We got to talking later and he told me that he noticed I have a slight hitch in my stride and that my foot strikes differ between left and right. Removal of my shoes and analysis of the wear patterns on the sole sure seemed to prove him right.

Apparently I'm landing too much on the ball of my left foot and not rolling my foot correctly and losing some of the ability to push off with that foot. He believes that if I can correct this slight flaw it could be worth 7-10 seconds a mile on race day. So I'm going to work on this and try to focus on it somewhat as long as it doesn't become a primary focal point and screw everything else up.

I also asked another runner whom I respect very much about whether or not this guy knows what he's talking about and he believes he does.

how does someone land too much on the ball of their foot? I would think that to fix the problem, you'd work on the other landing, where you land "more" on the ball of your foot.

You may have found the answers to your groin aggravation.

Maybe I'm displaying my own ignorance Sue. I thought the ball of your foot was the front part of your foot. He said I was almost running up on my toes with my left foot.

that's where I run (though with both feet). I'm being a little facetious, but I still think that it may be a possibility that you might be better correcting the complete opposite. If you can google the POSE method, you will find that is exactly how they "want" you to run. a little further up on your foot.

Where's jrjo with an opinion?????
