How often do you read about a police officer being killed in the line of duty where you live? We lost four RCMP in one sniper attack here not long ago, and the nation was rocked to its very core.
I believe Canada on the whole is a safer place to live than the US because of our gun control laws. Discuss.

I believe you have less of a gang/drug/criminal problem due to fewer people concentrated in small area. I love your country, I despise your gun laws.

What do you despise about them? Too restrictive?
I don't understand why anyone with a pulse in the US can have a handgun. Handguns serve no purpose (hunting, etc). You can't tell me there are that many target shooters in the US.

What did the snipers use? Guns?

Hmmm, the BAD guys didn't abide by the law....

They're just like the bad guys in America--they wouldn't follow the law no matter what. If gun ownership were outlawed in America, the only people armed besides the cops would be the bad guys. Drugs are illegal and look how rampant they are.

A lot of it has to do with concentration of people in a tight space.

In smaller towns across America--where many law abiding gun owners live, you almost never hear of cops being shot to death.

it aint the law abiding citizens killing people.

The same gun laws that keep honest people from getting guns just keep getting more restrictive thus making the market more lucrative for those who are dirtbags and want guns to buy/sell.

Even the citizens who we meet who have guns on them (legally) always say they have guns on them and are forthright. As always they have nothing to hide for us.

More gun laws are not the answer.

The argument that we have fewer people in more space is one I have not heard before, but it's interesting.
The last policeman killed in Canada was in the 1960s or something. We do have several major urban centres but still the majority of crime is gunless.

Florida's new law. I am against any type of killing, except euthanasia, and I own 2 hand guns. I have taught Lucy how to use them and told her that if someone breaks into the house and threatens her, she should turn the safety off and squeeze the trigger until no more bullets come out, period. Don't ask questions or even try to reason, just SHOOT.

The thought of something happening to her in her own home frightens me terribly. She should and does have the right to protect herself.

As for the policeman that were killed. It is tragic, but they chose their profession and know going in it is dangerous.

just for the record. Most if not all burglaries occur during the day. Most burglars are non confrontational and choose the day when most people are not home.

Regardless. Night time burglaries still happen.

If the U.S. could eliminate or at least get the illegal drug trade in check a very large percentage of gun violence would disappear.

Personally, I'd have to see statistics to make comparisons as to which country is safer as a whole than to make generalizations. However, you're probably right with the gun control issue.

I do hear about policemen getting shot or injured on the job much more here in AZ than I did in OH...or SC. It probably has to do with moving to the 6th largest city in the US.

Sorry to hear that a police officer was gunned down though. It's never good news to hear that.

The province I live in has a massive illegal drug problem. We are the marijuana grow op capital of the world. Old people grow it for some spare income. And yet, very little gun-realted crime.
You have to pretty much sell your soul for a handgun up here. Minimum six month wait, and you need a special permit to transport it to and from the gun range, and nowhere else. Now, I'm not saying there aren't illegal guns floating around out there, but I do think comparatively speaking there are a lot less than south of the border.
