Love the long run alone and with others, I think it is important to run a few by yourself in order to push and control the pace yourself, thinks it makes you stonger mentally to know you can push yourself for 3 hours.

while those weekly long runs with others are fun, social, and go by much faster with others. Nothing beats those runs when you realize you have been out there 2 hours already and you are still just chatting away with the people you are running with.

some alone is necessary but its amazing how fast the miles go when you have someone to talk to. its also funny some of the topics you cover when you have a pretty long run

I go it alone. Long runs are one of my favorite runs of the week. As Monk said, it is nice to have that time alone. I concentrate on my my running and just think about whatever comes to mind. Also, I see a lot that I wouldn't notice if gabbing away with a friend...and the fact is I don't know anyone in this area who would even conceive of doing a long run.

What I've noticed on long runs...only runners and bikers are out at the hour I run it. In the Summer, I run it between 5:30 and 6:00 in the morning.

That said, sometimes I consider joining a running club about 35 minutes away...but I wouldn't want to run with them on long run day...and then I think...it's not worth driving 35 mintutes for a 6 or 7 mile run. dunno
