i got a phone call from the head of MADD's winnipeg chapter today. (that's Mothers Against Drunk Driving)

he read my letter a few weeks back and said he was really impressed with it. anyways, apparently he's trying to get in touch with me.

the odd thing is he had to hunt me down... the newspaper doesn't give out that information. don't i feel special Smile

i left a message back with him, i'll let you all know how it goes.

That happened a couple years ago here in Indiana. I'm glad it was lowered. I'm not sure what the statistics are, but I'm sure they are for the better.

It's been .08 in Maine for a few years, I think about as long as I have been driving. Now, for me, one beer will get me there because I am such a lightweight. I think you'll be nabbing folks right and left for a while.

here in PA it will be a lesser sentence for .08 to .10 and on up. It really puts us in a spot because some people are technically over the limit and can drive but some people at like .10 are all over the road.

I see a lot of trial work for dui lawyers.

This was all about the money, states were basically strong armed into lowering it. It is political suicide to vote against it because of the stigma associated with it.

The opinion around here is .08 is too low but we just enforce, not make.

It will though save lives, if nothing else we will be busier because of it.

is there a system to adjust it according to your weight/height?

What I don't understand is the whole sentencing thing.

Someone beats a dog (which is horribly wrong) and gets sent to prison. Someone drives drunk, causes an accident where there are serious injuries and often they just get a slap on the wrist.

What am I missing? Forgive my ignorance, but it seems like the punishment RARELY fits the crime in regards to drunk driving.

Drink all you want, but for God's sake, DON'T DRIVE!!!!!!

yeah that tends to be the problem.

we could shoot them in the knees but that's not 'right'. i prefer to give people second chances, because it may have been a mistake.

if you get caught driving drunk you lose your license for 10 years.

it's a really sensitive subject, but i'm not sure why. i know people aren't accountable when they're tanked, but you'd think you'd have the foresight to plan ahead when you were sober...
