3rd year in a row for this run. very low key event, there's a starting gun and a finish clock but no real published results, no AG awards, just running 9.3 around the crash site to raise money for the shanksville volunteer fire department.

either i'm getting older, or they've added more hills to that course Embarassed (course is the same as it ever was) this was the first race i've ever used music; i wore my mp3. field is so small that i'm running "out there" alone for a good portion of the miles. they had flares at corners to indicate turn here, that worked for me.

i turned off my music when i turned onto skyline drive, the hill to the crash site. i looked at my watch at the bottom and then at the crest and it took me 6 long minutes to do that hill. the temporary memorial has grown in size since last year; tons of personal stuff left along a makeshift wall sort of thing. the actual impact site is hundreds of yards away, you can't get to it, but it is marked by a single American flag. there's really nothing noticeable about that part of the field, just the flag. it is very breathtaking nonetheless.

i followed a woman most of the course. she passed me, i passed her, we did this for 9.3 miles but she ran past me at 8 and then stayed ahead. she received the plaque for first female finisher --- the first year the organizer has ever given any type of awards out at all. i finished 15 seconds behind her with a 1:21, a 3 minute improvement over last year.

wow, that run will clear your head.

A little hinky that they had flares for a race honoring a place a plane crashed and burned. Other than that, I'm in agreement with all the already mentioned thoughts.

Great job - it's always nice to measure progress on the same course from one year to the next. Plus no IT band issues mentioned at all!

It's just very sad that there had to be this race at all Sad
