No way was it interference. Nice to see the people "were escorted out (of Wrigley Field) by several security personnel for their own safety." Translation - the Tribune Company got P.O.'d, and kicked them out.

Moises Alou was certainly PO'd... very interesting. I wasn't expecting a cubby loss tonight.

The Fox commentators put it succinctly - if the fan reaches into the field of play, it's interference. If the player sticks his glove into the stands, it's up for grabs. And the umpire was right there looking at it. It's all the post-game talk on TV and radio is about.

and the fan inteferes is pure stupidity. What a dummy. I wouldn't be at all surprised to read the news this morning and see that that guy was beaten severly by angry fans. They showed his face enough - he's going to be a target.

Wasn't interference but it was a stupid move by the fan.

Cubs can't blame it all on him even though it was a contributing factor. No guarantee Alou catches the ball and then shortstop boots a routine grounder to help keep inning alive also. They need to regroup big time.

1) The umpire was there and made the call.
2) If he had thought it was interference, Dusty Baker would certainly have gone out to protest. He didn't.
3) A ball comes your way in a game, you are going to walk away from it so the fielder can come into the stands to catch it? And don't say what I've heard in other playoff games this year - "If the fan lets the fielder make the play, he (the ballplayer) will hand the ball back to the fan after the play is completed." With runners on base and less two out - I don't think so.

That fan cost the Cubs one out at the most. The rest of the choke job is on the Cubs.

If the shortstop turns the DP instead of making the error, the Cubs would be waiting this morning to see who they'd play in the World Series.

The real question is whether there was enough of a shift in momentum. It'll be a fun game tonight.

I agree with most of what was said here.

I feel sorry for that fan. Holy crap! A foul ball is coming at you, you reach up, and....all of a sudden you have all of Chicago mad at you!

It wasn't his fault the team lost.

I'm actually kinda glad the team choked the lead so much, just so that fan doesn't have that weighing on his head. If it had been a 1 run victory for the Marlins, that would have been bad for him.

I agree, not his fault. Heck, you see a ball coming towards you in the stands, the last thing on your mind is "where's the player, can he get the ball"? You're thinking, "I have to beat all these other schlubs and catch this thing". (Notice the other fans trying equally hard for the ball)

I look at it this way, he paid big bucks to catch that ball, and the player was paid big bucks to catch it also. The cubs need to sign the fan.

this reminds me of '92...if Jose Lind wouldn't have committed an error at second Braves would have never had the chance for Barry Bonds to short arm the non throw out of Sid Bream at home....
Does Dusty Baker think back to the Game 6 lead the Giants blew vs the Angels....

Only one problem: He booted the catch.
