I have working out HARD for just over the last month; swim, run bike. 2hours a day on average of heavy exercise. So I'm feeling pretty buff.

Today is my rest day but I decided it wouldn't hurt to do this DVD I have from ages ago called Classical Stretch. It's kind of a resistance/stretching thing, makes you feel really good. Anyhoo.....

ANYTHING to do with moving my leg laterally out from my body I SUCK at. I kicked butt on the quad/hammie/calf exercises, but anything isolating the hip left my crying like the little girl that I am. There's a lesson to be learned in here somewhere. I am going to try to incorporate the Hip Nazi stretching lady at least a couple of times a week. I think it will help to preven injury in the long run to ensure that ALL my muscles are strong.

An example: Anyone who runs or bikes a lot, lie on your side with your bottom leg bent. Extend the top leg, and flex your foot. Now twist your heel as far as you can toward the ceiling. Maintaining this twisted position, do leg lifts, circles, touch the floor in front of you and extend you leg behind you. You'll be crying too.

no thanks.

coach tends to view stretching as something better left to the professionals.

Since that sounds like a Yoga pose, why not use a yoga band (or other suitable article like a jumprope) to help you pull/hold your leg up ? It would make it easier while at the same time helpig your stretching goal.

Because I don't want help, I want to get stronger. The exercise I mentioned is a strengthening one, not a stretch.

Doing Yoga does help in strengtening and flexibility. All I am suggesting is something to help you in your endeavors at least until you're stronger.
