This is more of a psychological problem but I still think this is the right place to ask for help. So, I participated in my first amateur race. I cherished high hopes and expectations. I didn’t mean I was going to be the first, but I certainly didn’t expect to be left in a cloud of dust and reach the finish line among the last. My ego dropped. I’m even thinking about quitting. What can help me overcome this crisis?

Hang on there, boy! It’s not that tragic as you may think at the moment. We all have our ups and downs and your down came at the most sensitive and inappropriate moment – at the beginning of your running career. But, you must know that even the greatest runners had situations like this one throughout their careers. And the true winner is not the one who wins but the one who knows how to lose and how to get back on top after a bad period. All you need is a psychological counseling, because mental strength is equally important for an athlete as physical strength. You must make a fresh start and forget about this race. Actually, you can’t and don’t have to forget it, just try to learn something from it.
