I have this problem almost every time I go to Jack In the Box. I like getting items that are near $4.50, so that with tax it stays just under $5. I hand them a five and don't have a lot of change. It's easy. Simple. But probably 1/4 of the time they ring it up wrong it comes out to over 5 bucks, and I have to go through the explanation...
"Okay, the meal is $4.49, right?"
"Yeah."
"Sales tax is less than 10% right?"
"Yeah, it's 7 percent."
"Okay now let's just assume that it is 10%. One tenth of $4.50 is 45 cents. Now if you add .45 and 4.50... "
