resist starting certain threads for fear that you'll cause another locked thread? or maybe hurt another rr's feelings?

Unless I started a thread about bad shirts we own, I don't think I could come up with a lockable one. Certainly would not intentionally start one to hurt another person; that's another running site.

I wouldn't either, but, the longer I am here the more I discover how naive I am and how different people are in what offends them. I think twice about posting something daily it seems like. And yet they still slip through. Embarassed

Lockability is highly over-rated.

I usually delete certain threads I may start due to either the dumbness or boring factor.

I'd never intentionally start a thread I figured would get locked.
It does amaze how brave some people can get (not here at RR) when they are typing away in front of a monitor. They say crap they'd never have the balls to say person to person. I try not to say anything via the 'net that I wouldn't say to that person face to face.

I'm so with you. I'm not a thread starter.
