not necessarily. there is a cryptic verse in the gospels about it.
John 10:16 and other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold and one shepherd.
in context, Jesus is talking about how he is giving up his life for his people, then he says that there are other people that must be brought into the fold. a possible interpretation is that Jesus is giving up his life for the people of earth, but that there are other people somewhere else. I guess that leaves it open for life on some other planet. |
Another interpretation of this could be that Jesus was speaking about the Jews as 'his people' and the Gentiles (or Greeks) as those 'other people' that needed to be brought into the fold. |
yes, but that isn't clear is it? just offering a thought on something that could be..... |
You're right, it's not really clear. Unless you take it in context with all of Paul's journeys and writings.

but Jesus and Paul did not meet during Christ's earthly life (just that road to Damascus-conversion episode) so Paul understood Christ's words second-hand, and at times, it is hard to see that Paul understood it all. (that "keep the women in their place" stuff) Other scriptures re-inforce the "first to the Jews, then to the Gentiles" thing and would indicate that Christ was meaning the "other sheep" were those outside of the Jewish race.
All that to say this: it's a provocative thought. there are some scriptures that defy explanation, and some that seem absolutely clear until we stumble across something like this, and others that reach out and smack us on the head with their bluntness. I'd like to think that maybe God tried again on some other planet after we messed things up back in Eden.

Don't forget, in addition to the vast spatial expanse is a vast chronological expanse.
The universe is billions of years old. Even if in this present day and time there is no life out there, that doesn't mean there has not been before us or will not be after.
There may be populations dying out or just beginning somewhere out there.
When you think in terms of a large unknown area over billions of years, I think sheer probability says that at one time life has existed elsewhere.

My son asked me this question and I told him that God created us, so it is conceivable that he might do the same in another galaxy. Maybe we were just the test market...hmm??
And it is possible that he didn't choose to share that information with us the THE BOOK. Heaven knows what we would do with THAT.
