has anyone else notice an abundance of flea market merchandise invading your grocery store, as in there are now one or two aisles devoted to various things like Asian pottery, balled silk trees, windchimes, cheap pots and pans, winter hats and gloves, some assorted car parts, throw pillows.....
my favorite grocery store has gone crap on me. i bought skinless coho salmon there on saturday and when he handed it to me and asked "would you like anything else" i could have asked for a rust colored chenille throw pillow and it wouldn't have been completely out of the question.
why do i hate this? keep those throw pillows away from my salmon.
is this possibly a western PA phenom???

no, ive noticed it, in target especially. not only do they have a whole corner of the store dedicated to the "ethinic" merchandise, they also have some in the dollar section.
but i like most of that stuff.

trying to compete with walmart
Several chains which were initially grocery only have been bought/merged with chains that sell non grocery items.

i went to an ECKERD pharmacy yesterday to buy a new glucometer -- you know, it kinda figures, glucometer=drugstore=good choice rollingrock.
it was buried somewhere behind the scented candles, soda, kettle corn, jerky, faux champagne and hair extensions.
i had to ASK where they were. then she tells me they've gone "food mart"
keep the food in a food store. keep the drugs in a drug store. keep the crap in the landfill where it all belongs.
i think i have ADD.

Talbot's doesn't sell any of those things, I don't think.
I hear you, especially on the drugstore thing. Seeing all the crap cluttering everything up is a little disturbing.

my favorite supermarket has added a $1 aisle
I always feel like maybe I'm being ripped off by some of those items. they might not be worth $1 and I'm being forced to buy it because it's $1 and it's an impulse thing.
Target has added a $1 area too. I kinda like it because I'm going to target for that kind of shopping, and it seems like they change their $1 junk pretty often.
