Posted: 12/11/03 - 10:17 Post subject: did you watch the wedding?
I didn't. I was watching a couple of episodes of Angel: Season 1 on DVD. Unfortunately, i did get to see a few minutes of it. The gf called me in to watch a little bit. She was watching Queer as Folk, but just wanted to see what was going on. We saw enough to see that the host from the Bachelorette was the host of the wedding, and that it was absurdly expensive. Plus, the semi-cheesy reading of the Elizabeth Barrett Browning poem. Listening to the Dave Ryan in the Morning radio show, i guess some of the men who were rejected on the Bachelorette were also at the wedding.
And that's more than i want to think about the wedding, so i'm gonna stop now.

Damn! That was on last night? I missed it.
Ah, just as well. I trimmed my toenails instead of watching The Wedding of the Decade.

Do you have to ask?
I found it nauseating (seriously, how much pink can there be in one place) and Trista to be the fakest woman I've ever seen. What does Vegas have on them lasting 6 months? And how long until Trista has her own talk show? I'm glad they are no longer airing their lives so I won't be forced to watch any longer

I heard a rumor that they are contractually required to stay married for two years by ABC.

Really? That makes sense since they were paid $1 million in addition to ABC paying for the $3+million extravaganza.

Yes, of course I was right there with you. I found it really annoying, cheesy, over the top....all as expected.
What was with the stupid correspondent reports from Charlie and that chick? Those were so lame! As if we were watching some sporting event and needed the play by play. And all I kept thinking every time Charlie came on and talked to the groom, parents, etc. was "hey, you used to get down with the bride!"
And if the stupid host said "Wedding of the Decade" one more time I was going to bash the TV screen.
I just thought it was way overdone, but of course that was the point. The helicopters were really distracting, but obviously ABC knew that would happen with an outdoor wedding and helped boost the hype of it all.
I wasn't crazy about the ceremony, but I'm very traditional when it comes to weddings. It just seemed too laid back and I can't believe how cheesy Trista seemed, and even managed to baby-talk during the ceremony (why am I surprised?). And what was with that sand thing? Sorry if anyone here did that, but I've never heard of it. The unity candle is one thing and a nice touch, but the meshing of the two sands was just lame.
The pink pink pink everywhere was way too much. Enough already, honestly. I like pink as much as the next girl, but there is no way I would've wanted all that at my wedding.

Help! I don't understand. Could someone explain it to me?
I didn't watch the show. However, I could hear bits and pieces of it...someone else here watched it. I can almost understand some of what's been reported but....
...if the show was so tacky (or whatever), how is it that some people managed to watch the entire thing? I mean, if it was that bad, what kept you tuned in? Was this something similar to rubbernecking that auto accident? It was horrible but you couldn't take your eyes off of it? Did anyone have to pay to watch it? I mean, it's not like you were going to waste money if you changed the channel, right?
Honestly, what was it that kept you watching? Enquiring minds want to know!

King of Queens and Fox News.
As we were flipping, we stopped at the point she was coming down the aisle.
Pretty dress--but did that seem like one long-a$$ walk to anyone else? We clicked off and came back and she was just getting to her father (or whoever that guy was). Then they walked some more.
I can't believe how expensive that wedding was. I heard the shoes were outrageously expensive---and who saw them??

| airehead wrote: | | I heard the shoes were outrageously expensive---and who saw them?? | I think I heard $50K? Last night they said they had 8 karats of diamonds on the pair. Probably 3" heels that she obviously had trouble walking down stairs in, which she had to do in order to get to her 3 football field length aisle (okay, maybe not that long...). And exactly, who saw them once they were on her feet???
Sparks I think you nailed it with the car accident thing. But it probably began with an initial obsession with the Bachelor/Bachelorette series in that you just can't believe its real, so you keep watching to either figure out why it is real or prove yourself right and find that defining "See, the are so incompatible" moment. The ceremony itself is where we almost fell asleep. Very odd. But, the rest of it was interesting to see how people would spend $4 mill on a wedding if given the opportunity. And, as we've seen, money can't buy taste.

It's most definitely like watching a car wreck....you just want to see. Horrible, I know. But I definitely wouldn't pay to watch, that's where I draw the line (unless it was really cheap....just kidding).
Very lame on the shoes and long walk.....what's the point of $50,000 shoes....let alone if no one even sees them???? It was just to add to the drama...."the most expensive bridal shoes ever!" Whoopidy-do!
