Interestingly, most of the time, the clerks in the store seem to ignore me. They probably think I wandered in by mistake. |
I do all the sewing as well. I made all my 18th century clothing, and about half my WWII uniforms. I do leather work too. Saves a lot of money.
When you grow up on a farm, you learn to do everything. From making cloths to arc welding....

Would you have thought, at an earlier age, being able to cook, sew, do laundry and look like Adonis make you that much sexier to women ?

I bought a sewing machine last year....it's still in the box. My son was going to teach me. I will learn...someday.
I had to sneak my stuff home in 7th grade to my mom. She would curse the entire night "I can't believe the teacher approved this" She'd spend the whole night taking 2 months work of stitching apart and then sew it together and I'd sneak it back. My sisters would be standing there laughing at me like I was inept. Home ec was not my thing.

I sewed all the patches on my fire company uniforms and gear, and if I have a button or small hole that needs fixing, I will do that as well
But going to the arts and crafts store is not very high on my list of things to do. The Mrs usually gets assigned that task. However when it comes to constructing said purchases, which typically are for school projects, I am assigned. Turns out that I am a pretty creative person when it comes to school projects.

My mother designed and sewed ballroom dance clothes for some time, and is quite talented. That said, I can barely sew on a button and I've been in my share of fabric stores as a kid. I used to hide under the silk and velvet while she shopped. She made some cool outlandish outfits for the ballroom dancers. More practically, she's made alterations on dresses I bought on sale that were too big and made them fit wonderfully.
I still don't care for the fabric store myself. It always smelled musty and full of dusty strings and remnants.
My grandmother used to quilt and knit too. I guess the talent skipped a generation with me.
