I think what he's saying is that a little convenience, in this culture, only goes a little way.
I think if you keep it in perspective, some indulgence can really be a useful thing. On the other hand, if it becomes about whether "I deserve it," it's not such a good thing.

Over-indulgence also makes commonplace that which would otherwise be a decadence.
I still say a good cheeseburger would be absolute decadence to me.
