Posted: 05/20/03 - 10:57 Post subject: computer picture help
When I take digital pics and email them, I can send several at a time no problem.
I just got some pics back from regular film and on CD, and I've tried emailing the pics from the CD and my email is saying they are too big to send.
For example I looked and a pic from the digital says size is 94KB. Size from one that's on CD says 2940KB. Why are they so big on the CD? Is that why they won't email? Any way to make the size of the CD ones smaller so I can email them? That was one of the reasons I got the CDs, so I could email...
Anyone know???
Thanks.

Pics on the internet are usually 72 dpi while pics on a CD are print quality (usually) and are more like 200 or 300 dpi and are much larger. Have you got image editing software that you can use?

[i have no clue what i'm talking about]can you "zip" them? someone told me to to right click and zip some of my photos from a cd and I was able email them a lot easier that way.....I have no idea what "zipping" them does or if everyone can do it....proceed with your regularly scheduled thread now[/i have no clue what i'm talking about]

DPI = dots per inch. It's the resolution of your pictures. Greater resolution = greater clarity @ greater magnification and better print quality, but it also equals greater file size.
I'm not familiar with Printmaster.

Zipping won't do any good. JPG files are already compressed. So by trying to zip them, you're trying to compressed already compressed files.

Picture It should work. Look for a function to change the image resolution.

I use Paint Shop Pro from Jasc Software, about $100.00 (Poor mans version of Photoshop) Allows you to resize photos, adjust color, etc. I e-mail screen view versions of pics @ 86dpi but send them @ 360dpi if I think someone wants to print them. Also use it to create .GIF files for my website.
If you're into digital photograpy, its the only way to go.

It seemed to work when I dinked with it some in there and then resaved it. But I couldn't find a specific thing to change the resolution. Any luck Cappy?
