Posted: 09/14/04 - 11:00 Post subject: cheesehead 1/2 marathon
With a marathon in 2 weeks and no marathon pacework under my belt....I decide to do this half at marathon pace and then bring it down to tempo pace for the last 5k.
how'd I do? first mile was flat in town: 6:20. The next 5 miles begin rolling country and it's against the wind. I'm wanting to maintain 6:45-6:50 pace and I'm having some difficulty with pacing. It just feels uncomfortable to maintain that pace and I find that 6:55 "feels good" and I stay there. At mile 6, we make a turn and the wind is at our backs. I turn out a 6:30 without added effort. I get it back to 6:45-6:50 range until mile 9. I decide that I'm going to drop the pace a little early and crank out a 6:23 and pretty much hang onto that pace 'til the end. I finished 1:26:40 and was too spent to run my extra miles

While the rest of us only dream of a 1/2 in that time....

 | And the amazing thing is, when they have the results in the newspapers, that's how her name appears!
Congrats, Sue! I envy those times. In the good way.
