The past couple times that i've run i've felt some chafing on my upper thighs. I know that i haven't been striding out as much as i did years ago, mostly because i can't go as fast as i could years ago. Since i weigh more than i used to, i think my thighs must rub together a little (methinks, i didn't pay that much attention to it). Any ideas or solutions? I'm not really enjoying it and i like to run in shorts similar to the racing shorts from cross country (they have a neat little pouch for my apartment key).

I was considering covering myself with vaseline from head to toe, but i was worried that might be impractical

Vaseline = poor man's body glide

I have to use it on runs over 7 mi. or I have to walk like a cowboy the next day.

I third or fourth the Bodyglide suggestion. It is not as messy as vasoline and container last a fairly long time.

It's not my thighs so much as my nipples! Breast-feeding women everywhere forever have my sympathy. I've been using those "Spots" Band-Aids. Would Bodyglide help in that area also?

...edited cause I can't spell

I sympathize. Men's nipples chafe, too. For our conference meet junior year of college, the entire men's team had band aids on our nipples.

Normally, i wear shorts until the snow starts falling (or until it freezes). I don't actually own (or like) tights. I'll be going with sweatpants (which i have to buy, again).

On warmer days I'd just run without a shirt, but even here it is starting to get a little cool for that.

I actually bought 2 pairs of tights on sale back in April when I first started running. My legs are now getting toned enough where I look forward to wearing them out. My girlfriend thinks I'm nuts. okay, so she's right. I am...

Yup. Bodyglide or Vaseline. Works like a charm.

Related Question (sort of):

What do you do in the coldest months of winter? Run outside? Do you wear a big heavy coat? I always took the winter off when i ran cross country, so i never had to start back up until we did indoor workouts for track (for those two years i ran track in college).

Also, fo inner thigh chafing, try this stuff:

I think its real use is for cleaning up baby poo, but I can vouche for its effectiveness in the anti-chafing area. Especially in the summer months.

Desitin is good for diaper rash definitely, but it is also good for other burns/chafing. The nurses in the hospital use it on my mom after her surgeries--to help with bed sores and the like. (I like Body glide because it has no smell)

I like running outside in the winter unless it is raining. Rain and cold will always get me down.
