Posted: 09/29/06 - 17:40 Post subject: cell phone choices
I'm in the market for a cell phone. No particular reason other than mine is 4 years old and I just want a new one.
I've been with Cingular the last 4 years and satisfied so I'm not changing services. Haven't had a contract in a couple of years now but anything at I buy at a discount will require a two year contract so I'm electing to purchase the phone at full price rather than tie myself down.
Any opinions as to which phones are worth the money and relatively inexpensive. I have read the CNET review of a lot of LG and Sony Ericksson phones. My only requirement is camera and video (don't know why, I've never taken had a desire to take a pic with my phone, but since I'm upgrading...)bluetooth enabled, reliable and easy to use.
I've spent the last week looking at cingular phones on the internet - all have their pros and cons. So how have your experiences been?

Not sure what cingular has but I just upgraded again and got the LG 8300. Great phone, easy to use. Has camera, bluetooth and MP3 player(although I don't use it.) My business partner is also an agent for verizon wireless so he always helps me with new phone choices every 6 months or so. I will never get another samsung phone ever.

We got the Sony Ericsson with PTT capability. It has awesome video (my son recorded a fight at school) and it has camera.
It passed the 15 y/o "coolness" factor with gadgets and cool stuff in it. It handles texting well, has good sound and picture quality. It is tri band and is blue tooth ready.
We're pleased.
And it's from Cingular.

I'm beginning to think buying a new cell phone is worse than buying a car.
I'm leaning toward the LG CU500. I'm going to go to a couple of stores to look at them as well as some others and make a decision early next week.
Thanks for your input.

if you have or like a pda, get one with pda capability that will enable you to sync your contacts and calendar with microsoft outlook.
I think it is the 8215, it is the one I will upgrade to when I am ready

That is an awesome phone. My firm has just contracted with Verizon and we are being offered various discounts, which is why I'm looking at phones from Verizon and Cingular. I have heard that if you travel to the Caribbean - U.S. Virgin Islands , that if you use Verizon they consider it an international call whereas Cingular treated it as a part of my Nationwide plan last year so I did not incur roaming charges.
I've also heard Cingular is better at international cell phones than Verizon. Any experiences one way or the other?

I rarely leave the gym let alone the country! I'm sure others may have an opinion on that though.

Thanks for your input folks. After a LOT of surfing and phone comparisons from various internet sites I've decided on the LG 8300. I won't be using a lot of the features (after all I just want the phone, not a TV set), but if I change my mind later the feature are there. I hated giving up Cingular but they didn't have a phone with the same features and didn't seem to really care if I stayed with them or not after 4 years.
If I can figure out how the camera works on the phone I'll post y'all a picture of my dog.
