Posted: 06/13/06 - 17:12 Post subject: bumpy shin syndrome?
Hi folks,
I have been reading through the runningforums.com website for just about as long as I've been a runner...(5 years or so). Yet, I hadnt registered until now. (Silliness) Well, first I thank you posters for keeping things interesting and informitive for so long! Here's my question. The other day my leg was itching like mad! I noticed that on the front of my shin about two inches under my knee there was a hard bump. I wouldnt say it is that swollen , but it is definately a bump. There isnt really any pain associated with it, but sometimes it itches, and I get this weird tingling feeling in that location. Any ideas on what this could be? Could it be a bone spur? does anyone else get bumps on their shin? Should I worry?
Thank you so very much. Any input is greatly welcomed and appreciated.

Liar! The forums are only 4 years, 1 month old! Just kidding... glad you stuck around!
This might be something you've thought of, but does it look like a bite at all? I can't think of why an injury would itch unless there's some kind of foreign material in that bump.

Haha! Alright, ya got me. 'Twas an approximation. I am going to hope that it's just a bite or something temporary, but it seems to be on the bone itself.

That's a long time to lurk AND still decide you like us enough to join!!! Glad you're aboard!!
I have no clue what the bump is.
Does it bother you at all other than to itch or sometimes tingle?
Is it more pronounced after exercise or other activity?
Do heat or cold exacerbate it?
I have a lymph node behind my ear that gets irritated and starts to hurt and feels like a bump on the bone. (I know, not what yours is, but I can visualize what you mean, though.)

It looks as though the bump is actually a raised bruise and its very hard to the touch (like part of the bone). There are other bruises along the shin that appeared today. I am worried. The left shin is tender today and the raised bruise bump thing is still itching. I think it may be some kind of stress injury? I am kind of worried.

this is a link to what it looks like. I am going to make an appointment to see a doctor....does this look like anything familiar to anyone else? | I agree with you assessment. It's time to go to the doc.

That looks like a scarab beetle under the skin. Anyone seen The Mummy?
Good call getting it checked out. Let us know what the doc says.

Hello. It isnt a sports injury at all.The doctor believes it to be Erythema Nodosum, but I am sceduled to have it confirmed with a biopsy tomorrow afternoon. He felt it was from the oral contraceptives i was taking so i'm stopping those right away.
