How many times a month do you need outside assistance with biking? Either a tire, or other problem?

.5 times a month. I could have fixed my problem myself this AM, but I knew my wife was awake and I was close enough that I could get a ride from her before I got the tire changed out.

For the right price, this guy has a sweet bike recovery service available...and he takes both AAA and AARP!

Actually I should probably have called this bike riders. I am interested in the response from all who ride extended distances from their house.

I can only think of once in the last seven years that I've biked commuted that I had to stash my bike after a flat because I didn't have a tube with and had to hoof it the rest of the way to work..actually wasn't too late, I had running shoes with. Otherwise, a couple times a summer, I'll guess the weather wrong and bike on a day with torrential downpours or lightening where I'll get a ride home somehow and drive the following day, toss the biek in the truck.

the first time i ever took a mountain bike on a 6 mile trail, it got a flat and i had to walk it back 3 miles at 12 noon on a pea gravel trail with a complaining preteen who was walking hers back too. that sucked!

she won't ride with me anymore. in fact, i won't ride with me anymore cuz i can't fit the bike in my new car.

biking's too complicated!

but i'm hardly a commuter. fubby

I take back my earlier answer. I think this is an accurate count of the number of times I've called for help.

wreck* - Embarassed
trashed a tube AND tire
3 flats and not enough patches
hit a car*
broken rear der. hanger
this morning*

*was actually close enough to walk home (1 or 2 miles) but called for a ride anyway.

If I catch a ride for weather, it's because somebody offered, not because I needed it.

with my 5 mile commute i NEVER need outside assistance. I'd say i normally get a flat only once a month on average and i carry everything i need to change it.

I have been trying to figure out a way to bike to work but I live alone so I wouldn't have any outside help, as no one in my family lives close, and it is a 19 mile ride (on the highway, probaly 25 side roads). I thinking I may drive to a park and ride, then ride the bike from there, that way it would be about a 10 mile bike ride, and closer if I needed assistance.

taxi?

The Atlanta area has a "guaranteed ride home" program if you sign up for it.

I commute 1/2 a mile each way. Never a problem although I've nearly wiped out several times in just that short distance. Confused On weekends I've done some 25-35 mile rides and never a problem till a couple weeks ago when my chain came off. Neutral I fixed it myself. Cool

I'm glad I re-read that and fixed my spelling. LOL
