I don't know. The one and only time I tried to highlight my hair was with "Summer Blonde" when I was about 15. I had orange streaks instead of blonde. Brunettes do not come by summer blonde highlights through home kits, apparently.

I've been really lucky with L'Oreal preference.

But that's for all over hair color.

Highlights--left to a salon or a knowledgeable friend.

You've got pretty dark hair, don't you? Don't waste your time with the home stuff; take the plunge and go to the salon.

yeah.

now its done and the highlights are a nice coper-y color, but not very even. Neutral but it doesnt look silly either and i have screwed up my hair much worse before...

besides, its all going to even out soon anyway. chlorine and sun will take care of that...

i used to home highlight but it is waaay harder than it would appear on those commercials when they are all dancing around with those highlighting kits doing each other.

very hard to do the back of your own head, really hard to keep the highlighting consistent widths, some of mine were really, um, chunky.

i'm going today; it's just easier and always looks more natural when someone else does it.

I agree to leave it to the pros. It's only the first time that is the really expensive one. Touch-up highlights were not as costly. My experience anyway. I don't do color or highlights anymore though.

I would go get it done as well. I used to do the home kits for highlighting, but the highlighting then turned to full coloring. There's something about getting too much hair when you do the highlights on your own...

I then got stuck into the routine of coloring my hair every so many weeks in order to not have roots. Confused

What a PITA.

I have grown my hair out to it's natural color and am going to go get my highlights professionally done this summer. There's no way I'm getting back into the root routine again.

I am in the root routine right now (and my hair grows hella fast) but I am loving being a redhead too much still to give it up!
They say blondes have more fun but that's a rumor started by redheads so that we won't all join their little cult.

I can't go to my natural color becaue it includes a bunch of grey. Thanks to the hubby for giving me greys.

I go to a salon and get my hair highlighted (foil) and cut for about $50. (my hair dresser is also a good friend of mine and she way undercharges me!)
