i start swimming lessons again on monday.

i took them when i was little, but i apparently didn't retain much.

needless to say i think it's gonna be interesting learning how to swim now that i'm 6 ft vs. 4 ft...

so are you a good swimmer? i can't even swim laps to get in the deep end (as i always maintained - the deepend is for the diving board, who the hell swims back and forth 4 times before going back to the board?).

would you take lessons? i start at level 2. that's like just above putting your face in the water level 1. nice eh?

i'm a pretty decent swimmer. now most of those from a swim team would laugh at my less than perfect form, but i can normally swim 75 yards before my arms start to tire.

I float like a balloon and do the side and breast stroke as well as the back stroke. I can't swim with my face in the water. Neutral I'd love to take lessons especially since I'm considering a tri next year. I'd prolly be in the same level as you.

I do a good sidestroke. I took lessons to be able to breathe out into the water 3 years ago. I actually got up to swimming 200 meters without rest and then I stopped. It is on my list for November lessons at the y. I've signed up before and there wasn't enough people. I'm determined to take part in the parents vs kids swim meet. My son could outkick me with a board when he was 3 y/o. I don't float real well either. I did learn with those original lessons, I can do it with very controlled breathing, if I don't let air in and out slowly, I sink like a rock.

I can't swim. I want to do tris someday. I'd take lessons or have my wife teach me.

Not sure if I'm a "good swimmer." I guess it's all relative. I am a good swimmer to those who drop like a brick in the pool. But...I can swim a mile without stopping for under 45 mins. So I guess given that info, I'm good compared to those who cannot swim across a 50 yd length pool without passing out. People in the MS forum could swim in circles around me and still beat me to the finish. So you might want to get some pointers from the people in there about starting out.

About lessons, just remember your position in the water makes a difference. You'll float better if your hips ARE at the same level as your chest when you swim. Get that down first of all, then work on your stroke next. Then work on your speed. I'm on getting my stroke down. Not much speed for me yet.

I swim better than Ted Kennedy!

Actually I swim pretty well. Used to be lifeguard and swim instructor and all that.

I once taught one of my math professors how to swim. He almost drown me one day!
