... a sewing lesson with a 9 yr old girl. I have been promising her forever that one day when there were no annoying boys around I would teach her how to sew. Today is that day.
My zillion dollar serger is OFF limits. She can use the crappy Kenmore and that's it. Even my generosity has some limits.
So when I drop off the face of the earth around 10:30 it will be because I'm making sure she goes home with all her digits.

You know, its a bit funny but... I'm the one who taught my daughter to use the sewing machine. She's actually gotten pretty good.

With the way young girls these days must have a new outfit for every time they breathe I think they should ALL learn how to sew.

As a necessity, I learned very quickly how to sew patches onto my uniforms. At about $2.00 a patch it gets expensive very quickly. That tradition was carried on with my kids and their Scout uniforms. I used to do all the patch sewing. One time my daughter's troop leaders commented on how well "her mommy" sewed the patches on. My daughter replied her daddy sewed them on.
Getting into actual clothing items is a bit too advanced for me...

Once you learn how to read a pattern, it's pretty much a 'tuck flap A into slot B process'. I can't make stuff from scratch without a pattern.

I'd settle for being able to make a brooch, a hat, or a pterodactyl.

I know geometric tolerancing and dimensioning like the back of my hand but don't sew. The gf sews a lot of her own clothes although I think most of them are from patterns.
