In what way was she supposed to use her position as National Security Advisor to break down barriers for minorities?

I don't understand. Do you feel that this position is not appropriate? I would think that any high profile gov't position (or any highly visible role for that matter) that is not normally held by a minority would be appropriate. But then again, I feel that it is my responsibility as a woman to fight for women's rights.

I haven't read the job description verbatim, but I would imagine her job as NSA is to help defend the country and all Americans. (Not just a select few groups that you think need help.)

Uhhhh...yeah. I never said that she shouldn't do her job. I just think that she is a poor representative for her minority group.

God forbid.

Since this is 'On Topic', I'm curious where you find a reference of God forbidding the appointment of Condi Rice?

As do I. But to blatantly use your position towards that goal undermines that position immeasurably.

And as I said earlier, women, too.

No offense meant. Next time I will choose my words more carefully. How about "I sure as heck hope not"?

And by the way thank you for trying to make something out of nothing.

Referring to God doesn't register as 'nothing' in my book. I thought you might have some biblical reference or such.

Surely this can't be a serious question, but a sarcastic one. You can't be that much of a literalist.

Interesting. Don't let a certain once privileged, now under attack demographic hear you say that. Wink

I think that I will bow out on this one because it is starting to get ridiculous. I, of course, did not mean to infer that God means nothing, nor did I mean to offend you. I am sorry that you took it this way. I did not have any biblical reference in regards to my displeasure of seeing CR as Sec of State.

I just feel that as NSA, she has a different role to play than simply pushing for women's rights. At the very least her being in that role (and Sec State) as a woman is a symbol of women's rights, but she has a very important job to do which superscedes any other cause.

I'm still confused on how exactly she should represent her minority group other than as a person to do the best job she possibly can and serve her country to the best of her abilities. That represents her minority group and also her country.

But then again, I don't see Dr Rice as a black woman, I see her as a woman. More specifically, I see her as a capable person in an important position.

As a woman I will do what I often do when discussing these types of things with men who just don't get it.
