Posted: 10/10/05 - 11:32 Post subject: a skaters weekend wrap-up
So having been off all last week and cleaning the hous getting ready for a post skate party at my place saturday the "skating weekend got here.
first on the to do list. Pick up a skater i've never met, Brent is his name, find him at the MARTA (train station) mid day. I decided to hold the last minute shopping until her got here so if he needed/wanted anything we could pick it up enroute home. It's been raining all day though, the weather sucked Friday.
SO.....we get home, eat lunch and get aquainted some, ut oh, he religeous. NTTAWWT but i feel my language and personnal style of humor might offend him some, note to keep that somewhat in check until i get a better feel for him. due to te weather the Fiday night skate is cancelled. some folks are going up north a bit for Ice skating. I make arrangements for him to get rides there and home. meanwhile i have folks coming over to what i think is get ready with food prep fo the party but it turns out to be a pre-party party. Music, i had about 12 fingers of Jack Daniels with my Cokes. party ends early though thankfully for me since i need to get out early and make a route out still.
Saturday...out of the house at 8:30 Am, GPS, chalk, and flour in my hands, and back pack. the plan is to make a route, and fill in the deadends, make Dead ends fake trails first. i skate a total of 13.3 miles with some dead spots due to tunnels and very wet trees. i get home at 10:30, eat second breakfast, pack up route markers and go 3 miles up the raod to meet the skaters for the Hash. After explaining the "rules" and some hazzards i take a 15 minute head start. i made the first mile on the recon i got myself "lost" and had to refer to the GPS in the ZOOM mode to get re-oriented myself. I'm hoping that the 5 minutes i just lost makes 15 more minutes to those that have no clue on what the hell i was doing.
on the trail i ran out of flour, thankfully almost at the front door of another skater. Patricia's home too, i get a couple pounds of flour from her and take back off heading on a semi-direct route home. 1/2 mile from home i run out of flour AGAIN i skate home, grabe a pound of flour and head back out to where i ran out and start back home again. I get home about 2:30 two more hours of skating done. I show several folks the fountain and such a lot of folks cuirous as to what the heck has taken me off my skates a lot over the last year. Plus i made a sale and got my buisness cards dureing the party too.
Party at my place from 3:00 till 10:00. UGHHHH. clean up a little and to bed
Sunday....up at 7:30 snooze til 8:00 out of the house 45 minutes later and back to meet skaters. a social skate of 16 miles to the park. definately the slowest pace i've everdone taking this group out with me. we stop at Starbuck's in the first mile then really start. one of our skaters not skating is a semi-pro photograher and he's meeting us stopping along the way taking pictures of us all the way in. 3 hours later we finish the 16 miles we check in with the main body and head to the villiage to eat, get rides home. BACK out to the park to play on the skates, soccer, keep-away, frisbee, cones and football. Brent has never done this before on skates and quickly appreciates the unusual skiils developed just for these activites as he get legs crams and soreness in areas not usually used in skating. Dinner at Willy's the normal skaters hangout and home. more cleaning and some cable movies more food, it turns out there was a lot of snack foods left over from the party. off to bed near midnight.
9:00 Monday Drop Brent off at the MARTA back home and more cleaning....man what a mess. 6 large bags of trash on the curb, a recycle bin overflowing, with a bag next to it. the diswasher loaded.
BREATHE this weekend was a smashing success. I only had a small part in it really not dealing with the logistics of the party, transportation the timed laps at Stn. Mtn. so even thought the A2A was canceled we made folks still happy about skating.
