Posted: 04/15/03 - 13:21 Post subject: a little pain
I've got some soreness in my shins and I'm guessing (hoping) that it's just some delayed onset muscle soreness from racing saturday and speedwork on sunday. i was hoping to run this afternoon, but now I'm not sure I should. On the one hand, running might loosen things up and I'd feel better, on the other hand, it might make things worse and i could end up on the injured list.
opinions?

Whenever my shins hurt I take an extra day off.
Edited to say that my shins never (touch wood) hurt anymore since I focused on my running mechanics and starting doubling my calcium supplement.

Keltic it could be DOMS, or it could be more generalised inflammation in the shin muscles.
Toe taps for you young man, plus some work on your calf muscles wouldn't go amiss - calf raises and calf drops. Also, do some ice massage on your shins - freeze a poly cup of water and use it to rub your shins for a couple of minutes a couple of times a day.

You raced on Saturday and did Speedwork on Sunday?

My strict policy, when it comes to pains from overtraining, and that is where this came from by the way, is to rest. Rest, rest, rest, then run easy and see if you are pain free, if not, rest some more.
It's the best medicine.

just part of my OCD personality to do dumb things like that! Stiill have some tenderness today, but much better, and I did not run yesterday.
