while i was filling out an application at a restaurant, this guy comes in and asks the girl at the counter to change some bills for him - it goes back and forth, with him changing it a few times and saying "actually just give me the fifty"... and i'm thinking dude didn't start with that much - i know what's going down , we got a money counter (but didn't know for sure and couldn't say anything from my position).

the guy got the cash and turned and left fast, and i said to the girl "yeah uh did that come in from the street" and she goes "yeah from outside... he was creepy". count your til girl, i think you just got jacked. she agreed as she wasn't entirely sure what had just happened. Confused

i offered to sit and wait so i could vouch for her if she was shorted but she said her friend saw enough of it to know what might've happened.

anyhoo, i got to talk to 'em and they promised to put in a good word with the manager Wink.

That sucks. You think cashiers would be on to old scams like that.

You just start throwing numbers out fast enough, and you lose track of where you started...

she was probably 16.. Neutral i don't think managers really train kids to watch for that or counterfeit stuff...

then again, i might not have even caught on to it if i hadn't caught a Cheers repeat the other day where that happened in a rather comedic fashion.. Razz

Pfff - it's pretty intense the way they do it, and as a clerk, you're not always likely to call ship on the customer. Confused it's really pretty effective. you're not always sure until after that you just got bunked. for the same reason i didn't say anything because you're not entirely sure what the heck just happened (that and i didn't get to hear how much he started with).

People do make a lot of money pulling scams like that, particularly around Christmas time. Never happened to me, but I understand how it could be easy to lose track of what you're counting.

If you'd have stepped in while the scam was going on and saved the till from being short, you'd have been a lock for the job Wink
