yeah. my racing profile is about 6 feet wide. the head and shoulders stay central and the hips down travel all over the side.

by street profile skating is aonly about 4 foot can be narrowed to 2 when needed though.

I didn't think of it that way. I guess it would need to be that big

Skating is mis-understood. My first posting over in CR was because someone starting talking about skaters not understanding the full mechanics of the sport/activity.

the power derived from skating is caused from a lateral push, not a linear push. becuase of the way skates are set up a forward to back push results in minimal, (if any) propulsion. so the force is derived from a side push. so most intermediate skaters would have a profile of double the shoulder width, a full extension of the leg. Racers on the other hand use whats called a "double push". The double push is derived from one falling to the side. my right hip will fall to the right even more. The second step to this is to put my right foot down under the left hip and swing the right foot under the body, ala clock pendulum to the right on the outside of the right hip Push #1 then start to fall to the left. as the fall to the left occurs the right foot does the second push and the process prepeats now with the left foot under the right hip. this stroke helps maintain momentum even on the uphills (the pro's anyway) a pace of 22-23 miles an hour is not uncommon in a marathon utilizing the DP.

the first thing newbie skater want to do is skate on the toes, this cuases a backwards push while pushing with the heel causes a more forward movement.

Holy Moley! Hyper you'd have to put that in your backyard or take out all the furniture from your living room to fit that thing in! Pretty neat though. What's the cost on something like that?
