said the exclusive canadian ASICS distributor to the would be online retailer...

specifically they said that they weren't interested in partnering with any online companies at the present time. why would you say no to a company before you even heard what they were all about? all i asked for was general information "how can i get shoes if i want to do this" (in a more professional manner). and i got a big fat talk to the hand.

to clarify the situation - i frequently toy with the idea of an online running store, or an actual bricks version. i'm just researching bits at a time and this is the first time i tried to contact distributors.

not that i'm deterred Neutral i'll make my own damn shoes if i have to.

followup: like any good business person knows, you must ocassionally make like a 5 year old and say "but why?" until you get some more information. hopefully future correspondence is more productive.

I used to work part time in an Wilderness Outfitters store.

You may have more luck with joining a purchasing syndicate, wherein you and a group of other purchasers approach a wholesale distributor and purchase in bulk, then split it between all of you.

You may also want to think about joining a franchise chain.

Were you contacting the manufacturer or one of their designated distributors?

Hold your breath until you turn blue. Wink

Do lots of research and explore your options. See if you can talk with other running store owners.

the follow up e-mail got a little more wordage - so i guess we'll bounce back and forth for awhile. i was happy to give them more of a pitch and i said i'd be happy to contact them again when i had more info put together so that they could get a better understanding of the opportunity in front of them.

we'll see. it was just the first foray, still lots of options to figure out how to get product.

Good call. You need to convince them that they will have a strong benefit from this exchange/business venture. Why is it worth it for their company to do business with you?

And good luck. Razz
