Posted: 05/31/03 - 10:01 Post subject: "to protect and serve" MY @SS!
The 5K that wasn't ... was supposed to meet TriBob and gogirlgo for a local race this morning. The directions SUCKED and I couldn't find the damn thing. Spent over an hour driving around. Stopped at 4 gas stations, where no one, not even a cop, had a clue where I was supposed to go.
I pull into a 5th gas station and am surprised to see another cop behind me. He screams, "Get back in your car!" I look at him like, WTF, what are YOU doing here, I'm stopping for directions. He again screams, "Get back in your car!" and reaches for what I thought was his gun (later I learn it was his citation book). I scream back, "Holy sh!T - don't shoot!" and jump back in my car. This did not amuse the cop.
Now I remind you, I've been driving for 1.5 hours, a full hour not knowing where I was or where I was going. This is the thing that causes me the most anxiety: I need to know where I am at all times. I start to shake, and have no idea why this cop has his sights on me. I tell him I have no idea where I am, and no idea why he stopped me. He says he doesn't care, and asked me to hand him my paperwork. I do, and ask him if he can be fast (15 minutes to the start of the race); he sarcastically says, "oh no, I'll take my time if I want." Which the b@stard does.
I had been in a lane to turn into a grocery store, but then saw the gas station so signaled to get back in the lane. Apparently this was a mistake, because I crossed over "tiger lines" (whatever that is). He's explaining this to me, I have no idea what he's talking about. He then says, "You shouldn't be driving because you have no awareness of what's going on around you."
"What? I've been looking for this friggin' BMW dealership for OVER AN HOUR. I am super focused."
"Well, ma'am, you didn't see me behind you." When I said yeah, I was too busy concentrating on what was in front of me, LIKE I SHOULD, he just snickered. Handed me a $104 ticket which "lucky for you, won't put any points against you." The fine itself was $25 and the rest was as I said "bullsh!t fees to cover your costs". This too did not amuse the cop.
By now I know no race for me today, I'm hysterically crying because 1) this cop is treating me like crap just because he can, 2) I am so lost I don't even know the way back to the road to get home, and 3) I've been lost for a long time. I got so anxious I felt like I was gonna hurl. I tell the cop, "I have to get out of my car because I'm going to throw up."
"No ma'am, stay in your vehicle where I can see you."
"Dude, I'm not kidding. I'm going to be sick."
"Ma'am, stay in your vehicle where I can see you."
So I simply put my hands in the window frame in plain sight, leaned my head out the window, and threw up. My only consolation with this whole ordeal is some of my breakfast made it on this @sshole cop's shoes. And I know that sure as hell did not amuse the cop.

That really, really bites. I hate mean cop stories. I hope you're wrong about breakfast landing on his shoes, and that it really got over a lot more of him.

give me the section number on your ticket and pm the officers name to me. I will see what I can do.
Look for the section under violation. If you want I will make a call.

Wow...sounds like you had a run-in with one of those dickish 'bike' cops from the movie 'Men At Work' (witness?)
Man, I've had to deal with cops like that and as much as you SHOULD keep your mouth shut you CAN'T simply for the fact that Officer Assclown was way out of line for the way he's talking to you. (having said that, I've learned to nod and smile)...
Sorry about the crappish morning, elkiddio...hopefully Joe can find his car and you can pull the ol 'banana in the tailpipe' thing on him or something...

those tiger line things are the area where thetrun lane hasnt really started yet and has diagonal yellow lines painted across it.
i know because i got busted for it before. i was going to make a turn and the lane to go straight was blocking the empty turn lane. so i look for cops, dont see any and make my move. well i didnt look well enough becuase as i was in the "tigger stripe" and was SO busted by a cop. i tried to play it off by turning into the shopping center there but the cop still pulled in behind me.
luckily he was nice and took pity on me and didnt issuse me a ticket.
sorry about the evil, small penised cop and im glad you barfed on his shoes

I hate to be contrarian, but while I understand your predicament and we've all done stupid things while trying to find a place in an unfamiliar area, had I been running or biking or driving near you based upon your description I would have thought you clueless. You admit that you had no idea that the cop was behind you and it seems that you had little road awareness. | Quote: | | "'Well, ma'am, you didn't see me behind you.' When I said yeah, I was too busy concentrating on what was in front of me, LIKE I SHOULD" | What if you seem to be pulling over and turning, I am riding my bike so I go to your left because you seem to be pulling over, and you cut into my lane without knowing I'm there?
But, again, we've all been there, and the cop may have been needlessly rude. But cut him some slack.
