Just a friendly reminder from your sometimes cranky site admin guy that you're not supposed to use people's user-name in the thread title. If the information in the thread is specifically directed at a person, use the  function. It's really neat-o!
This would also include the welcoming of new members in this way. If you'd like to welcome someone, send them a PM. It's a great way to extend a personal welcome to the forums.
If you've done this in the past, don't feel compelled to PM me and apologize, you're already forgiven for your transgressions.

I don't understand what's wrong with publicly welcoming a new person and letting everyone say hello. I always thought that was a nice gesture that encouraged the newbies to come out of their shells and start posting right away. I agree with the rest of it but not that, sorry.
You're not the only cranky one around here today buster....

It is a nice gesture but I hate to see those posts sink to the bottom without a reply from the person they were intended to welcome. That's why I'm encouraging all of you to welcome them via PM.
