Posted: 03/15/04 - 09:52 Post subject: :sniffle: Just yesterday I was telling my daughter
"If those people (her friend's parents) don't start locking up their dogs, one day one of them is going to chase me out into traffic and get hit."
Sure enough, this morning I rode by their house and pulled out onto the road and a hear a little <whump> followed by a YIP! I turned to see that one of the dogs had followed me into traffic (if I see them, I'll usually shoo them back home) and it got struck and killed by a truck.
I turned around and rode back to the owner's house to let him know that his dog got hit while another one of my neighbors retrieved the dog from the middle of the road and moved it off to a grassy area. The dog's owner seemed more surprised to see a guy in tights and a helmet at his front door than to learn that one of his dogs was dead.

That makes me sooo mad. People who can't take care of their pets - at a very minimum, ensure their safety - shouldn't have them. I'd "rescue" the other one.

Unfortunately, some people would "never dream of tying up their beloved_____" until after the tragedy. Then of course, they will blame everyone but themselves. Itws sad an animal had to die due to the owner's indifference.

Sorry PH you had to see that, much less know it was going to happen eventually. It was very decent of you to go tell them.
I'll save my rant about stupid pet owners for some other time. It's my favorite rant.

a) I don't think 'rescuing' the other dog from a police officer is such a swell idea.
b) I don't want a dog.

I got plenty of dog stories after so many years of running and biking. People like that think of dogs as "disposable". It's sad on all levels.

That's a shame the dog got hit. Maybe now the owner will think about a leash

Damn, PH sorry about such a crappy start to the week. it can't get much worse than that.
it is horrble people doing that to thier pets. I lost one that way myself as a small child. my parents would let him out at night to "go potty" and he would return on his own 5-10 minutes later. not one night though.
i do not let my cat out at all due to those reasons now that i AM the adult, and it IS my roof. and yes i have yelled at my father for doing such when he visited.
