I had several boyfriends before the final one who turned into my husband. I don't give a rat's ass about any of them, save one who I looked up when I moved back here. We're good friends again. At first, his wife thought it was a little strange, but now our families are pals and I'm really glad for it.

Sure you can remain friends (depending on the circumstances everyones already covered), but it doesnt' sound like you really want to remain friends, but to be friendly. (then again, I just woke up from a nap, and maybe I'm not on the right track)
I have several exs who if I saw today I could carry on a nice conversation, enjoy the moment, and move on. I probably wouldn't want to make plans to hang out with any of them at a later date.

The guy I used to date that I am still friends with was actually my friend for a long time before we decided it was a good idea to take things to another level. When it was over we actually talked about the fact that we had been friends for 10 years and didn't want to throw that away. We put everything behind us and I still consider him a great friend to this day. I guess I kind of wanted that with this guy initially when I ended it but realized then that it probably wasn't going to happen. And I think we've missed the window in which to become good friends, partly because we didn't really have a base of friendship first? I don't know. So, yeah, all that said, I just want to be friendly, but I guess the mild awkwardness is inevitable.
CB, thats hilarious because thats exactly what I was thinking about when I posted this...thats my favorite movie!!

It is possible I guess. I rarely have met any exs, but am just polite and cordial. All splits have been pretty easy but not real interested in "talking" or anything like that.
Randy, wow

Sally: Why not?
H: What I'm saying is - and this is not a come-on in any way, shape or form - is that men and women can't be friends because the sex part always gets in the way.
S: That's not true. I have a number of men friends and there is no sex involved.
H: No you don't.
S: Yes I do.
H: No you don't.
S: Yes I do.
H: You only think you do.
S: You say I'm having sex with these men without my knowledge?
H: No, what I'm saying is they all WANT to have sex with you.
S: They do not!
H: Do to.
S: They do not.
H: Do to.
S: How do you know?
H: Because no man can be friends with a woman that he finds attractive. He always wants to have sex with her.
S: So, you're saying that a man can be friends with a woman he finds unattractive?
H: No. You pretty much want to nail 'em too.
S: What if THEY don't want to have sex with YOU?
H: Doesn't matter because the sex thing is already out there so the friendship is ultimately doomed and that is the end of the story.
S: Well, I guess we're not going to be friends then.
H: I guess not.
S: That's too bad. You were the only person I knew in New York. |
