PS - Bicycles aren't as dangerous as cars.

An average of 16.5 cyclists per million die every year in the U.S. (For motorists, it's 19.9 motorists per million.)

It's 8 and I do. Previously I've pedalled 6, 7 and 9 mile commutes. The only jobs I didn't regularily bike commute were those that were 26 (I did on occasion though), 38 miles and 75 miles.
I'd prolly say 20 would be my flinch factor number.

I'm about 16 miles or so from my work.

The main problem is very simple:

There are no shower facilities at work.

1) wear underarmour/dri-fit type stuff.
2) wear antipersperant
3) bring a towel to towel off.
4) change of underpants
5) wash your cycling gear on a very regular basis to avoid compound smells
6) run your wrists under cold water for a minute when you get there to cool your body off faster.
7) deoderant and cologne also help.

it's not as bad as you might think (then again your ride *is* almost 3 times as long as mine)... Confused

Trust me, when I get finished a run or a bike ride no amount of toweling and deodorant alone is going to get rid of the funk. I'm talking being able to wring the sweat out of my clothes by hand. I do own Under Armor and other "tech" clothing.

Well, that's the way it is for me. Others have more luck and of course women do not sweat - they "glisten"

Unless one runs into the other. Surprised

I'd love to bike to work. If someone can do something to remove the 4000 half-asleep, cell phone distracted morons on the same road I need to ride on, I'll ride a bike to work in the driving rain.

This is embarrassing, its only 4.5 miles to ride my bike to school and about the same to work.

However, there is the coordination factor of wearing a backpack with a laptop in it. Then there is the aforementioned stink factor when I arrive at work or school and patients/fellow students have to put up with said stink. I just can't do it.
