My daughter got home from a week camping on Saturday. On Sunday she was seemingly consumed with catching up with world events. This isn't really typical for this 13 year old - calling friends and yes, boys, would have seemed more normal to me. Anyway... she lingered at the dinner table last night to ask a lot of questions about what's happening in Israel and Lebanon. I explained to the best of my ability including the background of the war that began in the 70's. I suggested that she read the front page article in yesterday's newspaper because it was fairly informative and gave a fairly broad perspective of the current situation. Again, atypical of her, she read article.

She segued to wonder if the world might end. Could it really end... disappear? Have I ever thought about it? What would happen? How would it happen? Why...? My 11 year old chimed in at this point too. The conversation twisted and turned to include many Middle East issues.

I realized that perhaps they had drawn the line between the Hezbollah Shiite Muslim faction and the extremists that their cousin is charged with fighting in Afghanistan. He was injured two weeks ago; he lost a buddy in the same vehicle that was hit by an IED.

This is a long way of explaining why I ask the following questions...
Do you think that the world with end?
Describe the who, what, where, when, why as you think it might happen.

I'll share what an 11 and a 13 year old had to say in another post.

I don't know the answers to any of that, and I'll admit I'm afraid to think about it. But this has always been one of my favorite poems.

Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.

But wait, we not only see the rainbow, we see the heavy clouds open, and to our astonishment we see Jesus sitting on His throne, talking with His Father and saying "Father, I want these, my children who have come out of great tribulation, to be given crowns as kings and queens with me. I want them to share our throne and sit with us." We all join together in a great shout of victory. See Revelation 3:21.

All nature responds in celebration to this announcement from their Creator.

It appears to be midnight, but the clouds roll back, and the sun breaks through in all its splendor.

Rivers and creeks stop flowing. Then God speaks again and shouts "It is done!"

Hurricaines and colossal tsunamis spread across the oceans

His voice causes the earth to shake; the mountains shake so severely that jagged rocks are torn out and hurled through the air. Colossal tsunamis spread across the oceans. Hurricane-force winds destroy everything in their path. The earth itself is moving. The surface of the earth rolls up and down and cracks apart. Enormous mountain systems sink. The tidal waves swallow up and destroy everything in their path, including all the islands and seaports.

"And great hail from heaven fell upon men, each hailstone about the weight of a talent. Men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail, since that plague was exceedingly great." God then destroys everything left standing with enormous hailstones --huge chunks of ice. The elegant palaces and homes of the rich are destroyed. The prison walls that hold His children prisoners are demolished. God's children are FREE! -- FREE AT LAST! -- FREE AT LAST! Excitement is in the very air! Graves and caskets are opened, and God's children who have been sleeping the sleep of death are awakened by their guardian angels. Revelation 16:21

They shout "Praise the Lord! We are FREE!--FREE AT LAST! Free from the sleep of death! Free from the prison cell of death."

The amazing things we have seen bring an entire transformation over all God's commandment-keeping children. We can see it in each other's faces. Our faces, so colorless, tense, and tired, are now shining with joyful smiles. You can hear that joy in our voices as we sing together the words of Psalms: "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way, and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though the waters roar and foam and the mountains quake." Psalm 46:1-3.

Bright beautiful light shines down from the open gates of God's Holy City, New Jerusalem. As we look up at the beauty of it all, we see a hand holding two tables of stone folded together.

"The heavens will announce His righteousness: for God is judge Himself." Psalm 50:6. This is the moment when the lost finally understand. For those who failed to prepare it will be too late. The time to prepare is now. The way to prepare for this great joyful event is to search God's word with openness and a hunger to understand and obey.

I don't think the world will "end" until it gets too close to the sun, which will happen but not for a while yet. I think people will all die off long before then, some by each other's hands, some by each other's deeds, some from neither.

The earth will outlast all of us, is my point.

The trumpet will sound and I will ascend into the heavens along with my brothers and sisters who went on before me. There will be a great party while the others will be left behind to live during a time of great destruction and peril because they refused to receive the gift before it was too late.

I hope it sounds soon.

I find it interesting how the threat du jour has changed.

One daughter thinks that the sun will get so hot that it will burn everything on the planet. The other daughter thinks that disease will cause everyone to die leaving plants and the rest of the earth. She also thinks that any living things will adapt... she used the word evolve to be able to survive whatever disease it was, whatever food is left, whatever weather might be.

When I was a kid, I thought the world would end via a nuclear bomb. It was the cold war era, ya'know. I thought that only the president and a select few would survive here. It pissed me off that not everyone could have a bunker deep in the earth.
