I had to go play AAA and get MW and the bike, then drop her off at work.
Looks like a job for Menonite bike repair man! Rear rim with gear stack and two speed hub. I could normaly do the replacements, but I have no idea how to deal with the chain and cable comin outa the rear hub...

On her style recumbent they added a gear stack to a three speed rear hub to get the full range, rather than another derailer and stack on the crank. Makes working on the rear tire much like a major engineering project.

Her recumbent does sound out-of-ordinary; I can change flats on mine in <5-min. I suspect it's time for an upgrade
