24th S"no"w Fun Run (5 miles), Lake Geneva WI
This is the first true race that I have run twice. Conditions were the same course-wise - the same course, roads clear. The temperature was about fifteen degrees colder than last year, with wind from the south make a WC temp of 10*.
The race starts with a run down a hill, scoots along an airport runway, and takes some rolling hills in the country (it's an out-and-back race - about half of the last mile is uphill of some notable grade). My leg, which has been bothering me for the past month or so, was wonderful today - no pain whatsoever. There wasn't anything unusual - no mishaps or the like. The last mile does everyone in, and fortunately the road was not snow/ice-covered. Still I still feel that I'm going slow, despite the splits shown below. Here's the comparison between last year (in red) and this year...
Time: :49:07.50 :40:32.70
Pace: :09:49.50 :08:06.54
Overall finish: 504 of 625 249 of 567
Males: 336 of 391 198 of 346
AG: 15 of 16 15 of 20
Splits - based on my watch time of :40:32:37
1 - :07:24.59
2 - :08:05.34
3 - :08:04.08
4 - :08:15.83
5 - :08:42.53 (I told you there was a hill, and that it was an out-and back course! )
Very pleased with the improvement from a year ago. I would have liked to brought the total time at under 40 minutes (and hence an average pace of under 8:00), but it was a good experience for the cold-weather running. The post -race festivities were nice. They had the customary shots of peppermint schnapps (which I declined) and beer (which I didn't decline). They also had an extensive raffle, the highlight of which were race organizers were literally throwing hams at random in to the audience. Great fun to see the expressions of people at a table and not paying attention, only to have a ham land on said table. A proud Wisconsin tradition!

Thats why it's fun, because you improved a great deal. Good job. About 2:30 yesterday, i was still working - thinking of you all. Whats next in store for you? A few of the Chicagoland races are looking good, Wacky 5K, Shamrock Shuffle.

Sheesh - I need a spokesperson! Answers to questions (and stuff).
What did you have for breakfast? - Two double espressos and a slice of marble loaf at Starbucks.
What's next in store? - April 4, it looks like I may do the St. Louis half-marathon. Three bonuses - 1) Get to stay for free at the SIL's new digs. 2) Get to root for our club pres as she tries to get a spot on the women's Olympic team (their race for that is the day before). 3) Another chance to stalk Deena Drossin - she is hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhottt! Between now and then I don't have any races figured out yet.
"Watch out for flying pork" is one of my three main rules of life.
All Oils lyrics are great. Except maybe for "Stand In Line."
Thanks all for the kind words and thoughts. And I knew my coach would like the results.

Was listening to Scream in Blue LIVE this weekend. If that album doesn't get you going, nothing will....

I'm just happy they ended SIB-L with "Powderworks". Any band starting their recording career with the opening line "There's a s***-storm a-coming" you know is going to go places!
