Funny, but none of the articles tell how they did it. Does the craft seperate or stay as one?

SpaceShipOne was carried by a jet called White Knight. It piggybacked to 46,000 - 50,000 ft and was released to launch its own rocket and coast to space/not-space.
EDIT: Here's the Scaled Composites website. Mega-slow as of right now...I'd imagine it's being swarmed by other g33ks.

EDIT02: "Piggyback" is a misnomer. Bad Beatrice! W.K. carried S.S.1. on its underside, actually.

Good. If a private company can do it and make money. Excellent. It is about time private industry took a shot. It is my hope they do better than NASA because of the profit motive.
It could be better for scientists, better for companies that want to put satellites up (if the company can do it cheaper) and private people could have a stake by making an investment.
If a science person really believes in space travel then maybe they could invest in the company.
I think it is great
