Name : Dump your Plump 5K
Date : This time last year
Time : ~25:30
Memories : Thinking I was going to win. Hey, it was my first race and I didn't know any better. Getting to the race and hearing the race director tell everyone that ran at an 8:00 pace or slower to get to the back. If I was in the >40 y.o female, I would have gotten a medal. I also remember on a hill in mile three a volunteer cheering me on and and asking me "It isn't THAT bad is it?"
I don't think I'd actually ever run 3 miles before that race. I was extremely nieve [sp?] to running before that race, never having run with anyone for any set distance and having no idea that some people could actually run faster than me.

7th grade I ran the 1600 meter run at the Dan Lennon Invitational Track Meet. This is held indoors at the Dakota Dome in Vermillion, SD.
My time was like 6:12 or something, but the only thing I remember is that I finished last. My first race ever, and I finished last. It was a varsity track meet, and I was a 7th grader, but that never happened to me again.
In fact a week later, I went out and ran the 1600 in 5:47 and beat several people.

I ran track in 8th grade and my freshman year. In 8th grade I ran the 4x100 relay and we took state! Freshman year I stunk cuz I didn't take it too seriously and my mind was already in 'soccer-mode'.
Name of race:Sole burner 5K
Date: May of '99
Time: I believe it was 23:40
Memories: I remember the exact feeling I had before the gun went off....I remember the horrendous hill at the end of the race...I remember the feeling of accomplishment when I darted past the finish line...That's what it's all about, baby....

Sept'80, I get alot of motivation from remembering my first race. It was a 2-mile cross-country course and I came in dead last. During the race, the kid that was second to last was yacking and crying. I'd catch up to him barfing his lunch away, he'd look up at me coming and take off in a sprint outta site down the trail. A few minutes later, I'd catch up to him again, and we'd repeat the go round all the way to the end. My time was something crazy like 23:+ that day. A couple years later, I can remember shaving ten minutes off my time. That first year of cross-country I was last more often than not. I was a literal worst to first runner in high school.

My first race was almost a year ago.
The Great Race, Pittsburgh. I did the 5K.
September 2001
30:58
I remember thinking of it as such a big adventure. I noticed all the people around me, listening in to their conversations. One thing that made an impression was that there was a family running together that I spoke with. The youngest child was about 8. Then there was an older couple running together. I'd guess in their 60's. Also, this was a couple weeks after last year's terrorism. I remember shivers during the singing of the Star Spangled Banner before the start.

My first race was the Run for Life, sponsored by the physical therapy dept at Mizzou.
It was supposed to be a 5k.
My time? 26:30
Memories: I saw my hubby (a PT student at the time) halfway with water and I asked him whether there was anyone behind me. I was afraid to look and I didn't want to be last! When I finished I was astonished that I, who had never broken a ten minute mile, had gotten such a great time on my first race. Then I figured that since everyone was saying the same thing, that the course was short. And short it was... it took me two years to come close to getting another 26:30.
