| Quote: | NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A mother faces criminal charges after she hired a stripper to dance at her 16-year-old son’s birthday party.
Anette Pharris, 34, has been indicted by a grand jury on charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and involving a minor in obscene acts. The boy’s father, the stripper and two others also face charges.
“I tried to do something special for my son,” Pharris said. “It didn’t harm him.”
About 10 people under the age of 18 were at the birthday party in September, including minors who were not related to the family, authorities said.
Police spokesman Don Aaron said minors are not permitted in adult establishments.
“A person shouldn’t be allowed to circumvent that law by hiring a stripper, a lady who took all her clothes off and spent a good amount of time dancing around minors,” he said.
Anette Pharris took photos at the party and tried to have them developed at a nearby drug store. Drug store employees notified authorities, police said.
“Who are they to tell me what I can and can’t show to my own children?” the mother said. |

It's a tricky issue no doubt. On one hand you don't want to tell someone what they can and cannot do in the privacy of their own home. The boy wasn't so young that it would be a highly scandalous thing, though the other boys' parents should definitely have been notified prior to the party. Here's an interesting sidebit though: you know that no one would have notified authorities had they all been drinking alcohol. It's acceptable for parents to give youngsters liquor, but not a stripper? It's too hazy.
If you're looking for an opinion from me, I'm extremely opposed to it. However, you should also keep in mind that I'm very opposed to strippers in general, and teaching youngsters that it's a good thing and means of celebration is a terrible example to set.

There should be an IQ prerequisite for people who want to be given the responsibility of raising children.
Stories like this infuriate me.

Horrible parenting.
That poor kid should be sneaking kisses and the occasional grope with his girlfriend not have a stranger's tush rubbed on him. And EWWW, does that woman think that the boy wants to have a stripper with his mother there??! If he does there are more issues that I care to imagine.
I wonder if the parents of the boys knew what was happening at the party.

I don't approve, but my real question is were the other parents notified in advance or did they think the boys were all just going over to play Playstation and have cake?

It sounds from the story like they went to a club for the party. Wonder what would have happened had they hired the stripper (yeah, sure) to come perform at their house?

I am trying to think what we would have done had we gotten this call.
We likely would have consulted our District Attorney before any action was taken . I am not sure where the PA crimes code stands on this but poor judgement alone is not a crime. Now contributing to the deliqencency of minors, maybe. I will have to ask some people about this.
I know we would at least get all the information on all people and likely break up the party.
RT though is more interested if there is alcohol at the party

I think it's idiotic and in poor taste, but it doesn't really seem like a crime was committed. Charming family though.

It seems like another case of trying to be his friend and win his approval rather than being his parent and making good choices.

Maybe win his approval I can see (in a completely wrong sorta way) - but be his friend? I don't encourage my friends to objectify and demean women.
I know you didn't mean it that way - I'm still trying to 'de-infuriate' (hey, I like that word). To me, this article shows the symptoms of a grave illness in our society. Or am I over reacting?

No, that's exactly why I posted it here. And it warms my heart to see that others were upset by this too.
