Lousy at baseball in 9th grade so I dropped and went out for track. First race I ran the 2 mile in 11:31 and broke our school record and won.

"Born again runner" at 24...ran the first Capitol 10,000 in Austin in 1978 and realized that running was fun as an adult too.

Once you got a hit, you'd have been a demon stealing bases. Shocked

good topic...

**being 30 something and 20 lbs heavier then i wanted to be and taking my first run...
**completing first race (5k)...completing first half marathon...
**breaking 2 hrs in half marathon on my 4th attempt
**instead of finishing or running a full marathon (i've done 2) I'd say the training for one will definitely be a defining moment for anyone that undertakes the effort...
**what will be next???

1) Deciding I wanted to do this, rather than nordic skiing, as my sport of choice.

2) First 5K. Showing me I could set goals in running - and accomplish them.

3) Getting a coach. She knows the right thing to do at the right time to keep me focused.

4) First (and only so far) half-marathon. Sub two-hours, which I never expected. Showing me I could get good at this.

...Still waiting...

I'm hoping the AZ RnR is that defining moment.
I've always backed down from competition and never had much confidence to sign up for races.

So, we'll see.

I guess my defining moment was my first marathon.

I went to Cincy at the request of one Jen Miller, and her family opened their home to me and Frogdoc, EJ Moosa and their families.

Along the way I met (the day before the race Kristin31, and her friend Bobbie).

So Jen, Kristin, Frog & I went out and ran our 1st marathon, but after a long port-a-potty stop at mile seven, Jen's leg seized up on her and had some serious knee pain.

So the three of us not wanting her to DNF on her 1st marathon, walked the distance with her and we all manage to cross the finish line in 5:51 and change.

While some would wonder the why.......to this day now three yrs later we are the best of friends and have done many races since.
