Posted: 04/14/04 - 11:19 Post subject: Your bathroom window
We're planning an "extreme makeover home edition" here in Wobegon. I kid you not, the builder is asking us to leave for a week so they can re-do all our windows, siding and moving some wallls, stairs and closets.
Right now we're kinda stuck on what to do with our bathroom window. Originally it was simply over the tub, but now it's in the shower surround. Not the best place for a window, but the only place to put one in the layout. We're kinda thinking of glass blocks right now.
Anybody have any funky bathroom window designs out there?

She came in through the bathroom window
Protected by a silver spoon
But now she sucks her thumb and wanders
By the banks of her own lagoon
Didn't anybody tell her?
Didn't anybody see?
Sunday's on the phone to Monday
Tuesday's on the phone to me

We had the glass block windows in our last home. You can still see into the bathroom more than you think. I'm not sure if you are aware of this or not.

funny you should ask...
our first house ended up with a window in the shower/bath. after remodeling the old "tub only" into a shower, we had a window in our shower so we glass blocked it. it had a little pane, dead center, that cranked open which was nice cuz we basically lost the ventilation in that room when we glass blocked the window. it was also waterproof, as opposed to the old wood framing that was there before.
i'd say glass block in a funky chunky design would do the trick for privacy.
yeah, that'll work.

We took our window out with our tub surround. Part of the remodel.
So, now no window in the bathroom.

there is the windows with the eletric fogging system. when you flip the switch the window goes opaque. when you turn it off it is normal, good for plant lighting too that way if your into that.

My parents did this, too. They had had this window, looking right onto the street, that they'd always despised. When they resided the house they had the window blocked up, put in a totally new tub surround, and voila! no window.

We have a big window in our bathroom, over the tub. Anyone can see us take a shower until it steams up and b/c our house has no AC, in the summer we take cold showers, ergo no steam.
I made some cutouts on contact paper, then stuck the paper to the window. Then where the cutouts were, I rubbed etching cream. When I removed the cream, where it had been had a smoked-glass effect, so now you can't see so much of us in the shower.
If you try this, I recommend you clean the window with Windex first.

Instead of a window, install a giant magnifying glass.

I'm thinking a darker colored glass... would that be the same?
And if there's a way to install some light bulbs in the a few blocks on each side, it would be lit and not promote the "silhoutte" effect. Ya think?

Uh...the only reason I knew this is because the neighbor on the corner... Well...
Not that I was looking or anything, but you couldn't miss it when driving home at night.
I was not aware of it until then and never took a bath with the lights on from that point on.
For real.
