during the school year both the 10 and 16 yo are in bed, lights out, by 9:30.
summer is a different story.
10 yo was up till 10:30 last night. i mean, she's quiet and reading in her room. i see no problem with that. i don't care if she reads till midnight really.
16 yo - i have no idea when he turns his light out in the summer.
i'm very OK with any bedtime in the summer, as long as i know where they are. they're always in the house and, considering the schedule they keep otherwise, i think summer is a time to let it go. so we do.

you and the DH with 24 hr time Now that he's retired, I might actually break him of this habit.
My daughter was getting to stay up a little later this summer if she had a good nap during the day and she was being sweet and not a sassmouth. We had to push it back, because she was starting to be grumpy in the morning because her wake-up time didn't change even though she was staying up later.
My point of this thread was to get a better sampling of bedtimes. It seems my group of friends let their children go to bed, whenever. The "whenever" might be midnight. The age range is 4-7. They think it's so great that my daughter goes to bed so early and they wish they had so much "control" over their children. WTF is THAT about? When did they suddenly NOT become a parent?
*Disclaimer: This post has not been a slam on the parents here who have given legitimate reasons for the late bedtime of their youngsters other than "I just don't have that kind of control over them".

Wel I do have that sort of control over Olivia and what a relief. The popular advice to today'd parents is anti-scheduling. I'm not a scheduling Nazi, but I do have her in bed just about th etime I've had my fill of her. But seriously, I have a friend who had been putting her 15-month-old to bed at 11. No thank you! I think that's nuts and bordering on irresponsible.
