My 6 yr old got a phone call at 10:30 last night from a friend of hers in daycare.
Can you believe parents were letting their 6-8 yr old use the telephone at 10:30 at night???? My daughter had been in bed for over 2 hours.
She went today with the stipulation that they are not to call before 10 am or after 8 pm. If she does get a call, she will be able to talk for 10 minutes. DH thinks we should make her wait to be 12 to talk on the phone to her friends
What are/were your phone rules?

6 seems a little young to gab on the phone. I don't think my daughters even got interested in it until 12 or 13.

Most of the phone calls to my house are for my nine year old . We don't really limit how long she talks on the phone. The only stipulation we have is that she answers the caller ID.
She has been using the phone since she has been about 7.

I believe it alright. The kidlets phone usage is about to be a really big deal in our house. She's 9 and the phone is constantly ringing. Not only is it annoying, I don't think she needs to be yakking on the phone all evening. Unfortunately not everyone in the house shares my opinion.

I can't get mine to answer a ringing phone. 9 and 11. Even friends know it's better just to show up and peek in the windows

My kids still are not interested in calling people and friends. I don't like them answering the phone at all. I'll let them call people if they ask and call at a decent time. I don't like or let them use my cellphone at all, unless they're talking to their father.

10:30??? no way!
the phone has become an increasingly popular way of killing time for the 5th grade girls, it hasn't been a problem before this year.
i've actually found my daughter talking on the phone to one person while sitting at the computer and IM'ing a different person.....how does this happen??????? she's multi-talking and never misses a beat on the keyboard or receiver.
really, i'd say no phone calls after a certain time and limit her phone call to 5 or 10 minutes. i don't mind her talking on the phone for a reason, but when they get to gossiping or --- even better --- watching spongebob together ON THE PHONE...i'll pull the pin on that conversation right quick.
get some rules set down early jenn. it's my impression that kids that phone late or phone constantly are really not being supervised too closely at home.. they are kinda reaching out over the phone and a good part of the time these constant callers are sitting there all alone. some parents get to using the phone as a babysitter.
