PH is right. And even if he was wrong, you have to take into account the male's natural ability to filter language as soon as its heard. Note that this is an automatic response, and cannot be overridden.
Here's an example of how it works.
You say

because he is going through the same 'issues' we went through early on in our relationship. He kept feelings about the relationship to himself that should have been out in the open. All i can do is give the advice, if he doesn't want to take it. Thats his problem.
My point to this thread was, I'm completely over him and am happy that we are able to be just friends without all that other baggage that ex's sometimes have.

You know you truly care for someone when you give them advice that's best for them and not yourself.
Sometimes that can be hard.
