I know "maturity" (age) is a relative thing, but was there one thing that happened, someone said or did that made you realize you're not "young" anymore ?

For me it was a combination of things:

People called me "sir" when I was not in uniform.

Some fellow in my unit mentioned his birthday and I realized my watch was older than him.

Young people asked me if I knew so and so in the National Guard and it was no longer their sibling or cousin but their dad/mom or uncle/aunt. (I.e. someone MY age...)

When the songs I grew up with were either: 1) on the "oldies" station or 2) being played as elevator music.

the said Mr. to me and my dad was not around.

I matured considerably at these words.
"Mr. Oaster there is something that concerns me about your daughter."

I all of the sudden realized I had a huge burden placed on me. I was a man who was thrust into a position of making life and death decisions on a critically ill girl, a premature boy and a wife who just had emergency surgery.

Yeah the time was 1705 on 25 July 2000. 5 minutes after Abby was born.

Yup that will do it.

Mine is June 24, 1993, around 1930, "Well, the CT shows you've got three little spots in the back of your brain, so we're just going to keep ya a while..."

Not quite as grave as your situation, but nothing like reality to mature you.

The day I found out I was pregnant. My entire outlook on life changed.

I'm never gonna grow up, though.

I still remember, with amazing clarity, my shock at discovering there were NO TOYS in First Grade.

When newscasters and professional athletes look so young to me!

I watch the news and think of how young some of the reporters are. Same with sports. When did I get old enough to think that??? Neutral

......one of my closest friends in high school died the year after I graduated. Attending a funeral for a peer when you're 19 is a very sobering experience.
