i thought the local YMCA was supposed to be inexpensive. Confused the one near me wants a $175 joiners fee then $45 a month after that.

and the old gym i was going to is just as bad. now they want a $119 joiners fee and its $45 a month after that. last year i was only paying $30 a month with no extra fees. Neutral

this sucks.

I think the local Atlanta Y's (and maybe this is national) use part of your membership fees to fund programs for "those less fortunate".

All of those joiners fees are negotiable. If they truly want your business, let them earn it - month in and month out. I joined my gym (without a joiners fee last summer) without any problems.

Wow! The one I went to in Columbus was only $29.00 a month, with no "signing fee". And it was nice, too. There's none down here. That's one good thing about living down here; it's always warm enough to work out in the outdoors.

Our Y, is $47.50 a month

I don't think the one time fee was quite that much though

I belong to the Y. It was 100 bucks up front and it is 41/mth. Somehow I don't feel bad giving them the money VS a regular gym. dunno

They take good care of the pool and the equipment so I don't mind paying the price. I could join a local gym for about 25/mth, but no pool.

I joined our Y after the New Year during their Ready to be Fit campaign. No joiners fee and $61.75/mo for our family and $39.99/mo for a single person.
