You can't win 'em all.
But as a Yankee fan, we do win the most!

*proud to hate the yankees*
on the plus side they are walking talking proof that money can (and usually does) buy championships. the ny rangers on the other hand need some work...

Well, I will give the Yankees one thing at least. The mets found out that breaking the bank on players alone doesn't mean a thing. You need to spend it on all facets of management as well...

One more thing...
First Base - Giambi (free agent $$$)
First Base Alternate - Nick Johnson (yankee farm system)
Second Base - Alfonso Soriano (yankee farm system)
Shortstop - Derek Jeter (yankee farm system)
Third Base - Robin Ventura (free Agent $$)
third base next year - Drew Henson (farm system/$$)
Left field- too many to mention 1 of 3 (yankee farm system)
Center Field - Bernie Williams (yankee farm system)
Right field - Raul Mondesi (free agent, for .50 on the dollar)
Pitching:
Pettitt (yankee farm system)
Mariano Rivera (yankee farm system)
El Duque (Cuba Farm system)
Ramiro Mendosa (yankee farm system)
Wells, Musina, Clemons, (free agents $$$)
Weaver (trade)
Yes we have a high payroll, but 75% of the yankees are home grown. How many championship caliper teams can claim that?

Monk tell me if i'm off but in the past, specifically the 1980's- steinbrenner would trade farm system prospects for the big names - the years he was away after the winnfield incident, the club held on to their farm system prospects and that resulted in jeter, rivera, pettitt and soriano

Well, yes and no. The Steinbrenner of old would have gotten rid of a lot of these top notch players for elderly has-beens. But he finally wised up and started to listen to the right people, hence Jeter, Rivera, Soriano and Pettitt (he was around for these guys, yet didn't trade them). I have had a lot of beef with Steinbrenner in the past, but I wouldn't trade him for any owner in baseball. He lets the coaches and scouts do what they are paid to do, and opens his wallet when necessary. We will see if he stays true to form this off season.
